COINTREAU WOMEN IN FILM AWARD
Congratulations to cinematographer Katie Milwright for winning the Cointreau Women in Film Award for Sony Tropfest 2006! Katie was part of two 2006 finalist films, Goggles (directed by Olivia Peniston-Bird) and Last Stop (directed by Greg Williams).

The inaugural Cointreau Women in Film Award was developed by Cointreau in conjunction with Sony Tropfest, aiming to encourage and support Australia’s emerging female filmmaking talent. Katie received $5,000 in financial support for her excellence in cinematography by an industry-recognised panel of judges.

Katie (29) has been shooting ever since she left VCA School of Film and TV in 1996. Upon departure from film school she spent 12 months being mentored by cinematographer Mandy Walker. Katie then embarked on a career as a 2nd Assistant working on Australian films such as Japanese Story and Ned Kelly.

After this introduction to top-level cinematography, she felt it was time to make her own way in the industry and has been forging ahead by shooting a variety of significant short dramas and video clips.

Katie’s has shot more than 20 short drama projects including the 50min short feature The Heartbreak Tour.
