Chery Filmmaker Challenge
1. Promoter
The promoter is Tropfest Foundation Ltd (ABN 83 688 694 279) of Level 7, 51-53 Druitt St, Sydney, 2000, a not-for-profit organisation registered in Australia (“Promoter”). To contact the Promoter please email go@tropfest.com.
This competition is presented in partnership with Chery Motor Australia Pty Ltd (“Chery”).
2. Competition Period
The competition opens at 7:00pm AEDT on 22 February 2026 and closes at 12:00pm AEDT on 31 March 2026 (“Competition Period”). The winner is announced via Tropfest’s social media channels on or before 6 April 2026.
Entries received outside this period will not be accepted.
3. Eligibility
Entry is open to Australian residents aged 18 years or over.
Employees, contractors, directors and immediate family members of the Promoter and its related bodies corporate and agencies are ineligible to enter.
Employees and contractors of Chery Motor Australia Pty Ltd and its related bodies corporate are ineligible to enter.
Immediate family means spouse, de facto partner, child, parent, sibling or household member.
4. How to Enter
To enter, eligible entrants must, during the Competition Period:
Create an original short film of 45 seconds or less aligned to the theme “45 Seconds For The Road Ahead”; and
Submit your film via the official Tropfest entry process by uploading it to YouTube as an unlisted video and providing the link in the entry form at https://www.tropfest.com/chery-filmmaker-challenge; and
Comply with all technical and creative requirements outlined on the Tropfest website at https://www.tropfest.com/chery-filmmaker-challenge.
A limit of one (1) entry applies per person unless otherwise approved by the Promoter.
To enter, eligible entrants must during the Competition Period:
5. Film Requirements
Entries must be original works created by the entrant. If the Promoter is unable to verify that the entry is an original work to its satisfaction, the entry will be deemed invalid.
Entries must not:
infringe any third-party rights, including copyright;
contain unlawful, defamatory, offensive, explicit, violent or sexual material;
include any image, video or voice of any other person without that person’s express consent; and
include unlicensed music, footage or talent.
Entrants may optionally use the provided Chery TIGGO 9 Super Hybrid b-roll footage, however this is not mandatory. The link is HERE for the footage.
The Promoter reserves the right to verify the validity of all entries and disqualify any entrant who:
tampers with the entry process; or
submits an entry that is not in accordance with these terms or conditions; or
engages in improper misconduct calculated to jeopardise the fair and proper conduct of the competition. 5.1 Entries must be original works created by the entrant.
6. Judging
This is a game of skill and chance plays no part in determining the winner.
Entries will be judged by a panel appointed by the Promoter based on:
creativity and originality;
interpretation of the theme;
storytelling impact; and
production quality.
One (1) entry as determined by a majority vote by the judges in their absolute discretion will win the prize.
The judges’ decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into. The Promoter accepts no responsibility for late, lost or misdirected entries or other communications.
7. Prize
One (1) winning entrant will receive:
Integration of the winning film into Chery’s official marketing activity; and
A $5,000 AUD rights fee paid for by Chery Motor Australia (inclusive of GST if applicable).
The prize is not transferable or exchangeable.
The Promoter reserves the right to substitute the prize with one of equal or greater value if required.
The prize will be paid or transferred to the winner’s nominated bank account within 28 days after the close of the Competition Period.
8. Rights and Usage
Entrants retain ownership of their film.
By entering, entrants grant the Promoter and Chery a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence for a period of 24 months commencing on the date the Film is entered into the competition to:
publish and promote the film;
use excerpts for marketing and promotional purposes; and
showcase the film across digital, social and event channels.
Entrants consent to the Promoter using their name, likeness, image and/or voice in the event that they are a winner in any media for an unlimited period of time without remuneration or compensation for the purpose of promoting this competition (including any outcome) and/or promoting any products manufactured, distributed and/or supplied by the Promoter.
The winning entrant will be required to enter into a separate rights agreement with Chery regarding marketing usage.9. Notification of Winner
The winner will be notified via email and/or phone within 7 days of judging. Winner announced formally on 6th April 2026 (if not before - once contact has been made).
If the winner cannot be contacted within a reasonable timeframe, the Promoter reserves the right to select an alternate winner.
9. Notification of winner
9.1 The winner will be notified via email and/or phone within 7 days of judging. The name of the winner will be published on Tropfest’s social media channels on 6 April 2026 (or before, once contact has been made with the winner).
9.2 If the winner cannot be contacted within a reasonable timeframe, the Promoter reserves the right to select an alternate winner.
9.3 Should an entrant’s contact details change during the Competition Period, it is the entrant’s responsibility to notify the Promoter. A request to access or modify any information provided as part of the redemption of a prize should be directed to the Promoter.
10. General
10.1 The Promoter reserves the right to cancel, suspend or amend the competition if required due to circumstances beyond its control.
10.2 To the extent permitted by law, the Promoter is not responsible for any loss, damage or injury suffered in connection with the competition.
10.3 Personal information collected will be handled in accordance with the Promoter’s Privacy Policy available at https://www.tropfest.com.
11. Governing Law
These Terms and Conditions are governed by the laws of New South Wales, Australia.
